This post is ALL ABOUT my first American Christmas ever!
So, I celebrated my first American Christmas in Northern Minnesota in. We drove to my host mom's parents cabin where we would celebrate Christmas w. Hilary's parents and her 2 sisters and their families. We ended up being 15 people. And now you're probably wondering how 15 people could manage to stay in a cabin and let me tell you, this cabin was ENORMOUS. I've literally never seen anything like it before. it was so cute and cosy and exactly what you imagine when you think about a cabin, expect it's 10x bigger.

In America, they celebrate Christmas in the morning, though they do have a Christmas eve too, where they eat a big dinner together, and it usually consists of fish food. We ate crabs, which was my first time ever, and it was sooo delicious! I talked with some of the other Au Pairs and they also had some kind of fish dish, which actually surprised me a lot. We all went pretty early to bed the 24th, probably because the parents knew they'll be woken up at 6 am the next morning by all the kids since they want to open their presents right away... Aaaaand so we did. At 5.40 Lindsay woke me up to tell me that we needed to meet with the others in the cabin to open presents. But I was told that no one would be up until 6 am, so I told her to either wait or sleep 20 more minutes... So she waited and kept me up, probably because she was so excited, which I can easily understand since I'm just as big of a Christmas-fanatic like her.

The clock struck 6, and we all went up in the cabin, to open presents and celebrate Christmas w. the family. There were so many presents under the Christmas tree. But if that weren't enough we also got our Santa Christmas Stockings, which was filled up with a lot of different presents. But the morning went by and we opened all of our presents.
Now we all just waited for the big Christmas lunch, where we'll eat a big turkey! And it was delicious!! Hilary's mom is such an amazing cook. We had so much fun by the table, and I sat next to my host family and Hilary's mom Sheila, who is such a nice lady. We had a long conversation about her roots. Shelia is half Norwegian half American, so she's been growing up with Norwegian Christmas traditions and dishes, which reminds a lot of the Danish ones
All in all this have been an amazing Christmas, and I enjoyed every second of it. Best, Silke, xx
And Merry Christmas
